Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction - Concentrations

Thirteen areas of concentration have been approved for the Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Elementary Education. The Elementary Education Concentration consists of courses taken in the Elementary, Early, and Special Education Department. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Early Childhood Education. The Early Childhood Education Concentration consists of courses taken in the Elementary, Early, and Special Education. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Educational Technology. The Educational Technology Concentration consists of courses taken within the Department of Teaching and Learning that are also associated with Educational Technology. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

English Education. The English Education Concentration consists of courses taken within the Department of English. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Secondary Education. The Secondary Education Concentration consists of courses taken within the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

History Education. The History Education Concentration consists of courses taken within the Department of History. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Industrial Technology Education. The Industrial Technology Education Concentration consists of courses taken within the ITE Department. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Language Education. The Language Education Concentration consists of courses taken in Language, Literatures, and Linguistics. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.  For more information visit their web site.

Literacy Education. The Literacy Education Concentration consists of courses taken within the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education and Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology that are associated with Literacy Education.  Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.

Math Education. The Math Education Concentration is available to those who want to earn or currently hold a Master's degree in Mathematics.

Special Education. The Special Education Concentration consists of courses taken in the area of special education which build upon a previous special education license.

Sport Management This is a unique Ph.D. program designed specifically to prepare sport management professionals to teach in higher education. The degree program consists of a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in sport management (30 credit hours). The student will complete two teaching internships including face-to-face instruction as well as preparing distance education courses for the on-campus sport management undergraduate and graduate programs.

Teaching and Learning. The Teaching and Learning Concentration consists of courses taken in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology and the Educational Leadership, Administration, and Foundations Department that are associated with Curriculum and Instruction and Leadership. Courses are approved by the doctoral committee.
